PAIN IS PRIDE (2019)
Silkscreen on museum board
Pain is Pride is an exploration into invisibility and comfort with the mediated animal image. Millions of identical cast elephant figurines blending into their idyllic, heavily stylized play sets and retail displays speak to our preferred form: plentiful and smiling.
However, the synchronized posing of the elephants are a familiar image of industries wrought with animal cruelty. The title refers to Maggie Nelson's Great to Watch, a section of which speaks to the controversial lengths humanity goes for entertainment.
