1,000 FLEECE (2018-19)
De-bossed Inkjet print of Fox and Cat (1636-39) by Frans Snyders, wood cut, mat board, velvet, wood, label

Frans Snyders was a well-known Flemish painter in the early 1600s. One of the first specialist animaliers, he was considered an authority of the painted animal image, often collaborating with other painters such as Peter Paul Rubens. 1,000 Fleece operates through sculptural manipulation. The original painting is cropped to alter the original narrative of Snyder's painting, placing the fox in a heroic position in its new composition. The new villain is out of the frame, though quietly referenced by the de-bossing of a large leg hold trap, only visible upon closer examination from the viewer and tactical lighting.
